Sample Museum Mission Statement & Purpose

The Museum of American Culture (MAC) fosters the University's American Studies program by collecting, exhibiting, and archiving 20th and 21st Century American ephemeral and notable items to challenge its visitors to critically explore the cultural and intellectual traditions that have historically shaped and defined the American brand.

The collection houses artifacts in various formats, including, but not limited to music, television, film, dance, theater, architecture, literature, and the visual arts to support the interdisciplinary nature of American culture. The MAC Library is one of the most renowned American culture research and learning centers for American Studies students. MAC invites all patrons to consider the role of subjectivity has played on mass media and mediated images that have shaped the American cultural identity.
